THE ITALIAN ARMY AT THE CHEMIN DES DAMES

It entered the war at the French and British Armies’ sides in 1915. At the beginning of 1918, Italy accepted to send 40,000 men to the French front under General Albiricci’s command.

On 10th April 1918, the 2nd Italian corps, which consisted of the 2nd and 8th infantry divisions, arrived to France.

In September-October 1918, Italians, integrated into the 5th French army, participated to the Chemin des Dames’ recapture.

On 11th October, they occupied Cerny-en-Laonnois and then advanced towards Soissons and the Hunding line, against which they underwent severe losses.
