ENCOURAGE THE SEARCH ON THE CHEMIN DES DAMES

In the frame of the Virtual Memorial project, the Conseil Général de l’Aisne wishes to develop the historic, sociologic and scientific research relating to the Chemin des Dames, and in particular to the combatants of all nationalities who died over there.

In the frame of the Virtual Memorial project, the Conseil Général de l’Aisne wishes to develop the historic, sociologic and scientific research relating to the Chemin des Dames, and in particular to the combatants of all nationalities who died over there.

How many combatants exactly died at the Chemin des Dames between 1914 and 1918?

How were treated and buried the bodies of these dozens of thousands of combatants during the war and the following years?

How many colonial combatants (Senegalese, Indochinese, Tunisian skirmishers…) were engaged on the Chemin des Dames?

In which conditions?

Those are so many questions that require a strict scientific research.
To know better this period of the history, the Conseil Général de l’Aisne wishes to encourage projects of research  that could use all the data collected and treated in the frame of the Virtual Memorial, whether it concerns its main database (around 34,000 index cards on 1st November 2006) or documents that permit to collect them on-line.
